Absolut Inxs. Scanorama back
ABSOLUT INXS is on page 11 of the 1-2/03 issue of Scanorama, the takeaway in-flight magazine of SAS (Scandinavian Airway System) and is an ad in the ABSOLUT ALBUM COVERS TO SAVOUR Series. This ad is a variation of the 1987 album "Kick" from INXS, the internationally popular Australian rock group. The original album cover had photos of band members posted all over a white page; one of the photos shows the underside of a floating skateboard, with a band member's boots visible. Here, in this ad, the skateboard has been modified to the now famous Absolut bottle shape. Up the left margin is printed: TBWA, Absolut.com/AlbumCovers and ©2002.

An ABSOLUT ALBUM COVERS TO SAVOUR page on INXS (pronounced "In Excess" or "In-X-S") is presented on the facing page (10). Written by John Aizlewood, it talks about the rock group Michael Hutchence, Kirk Pengilly, Garry Gary Beers (not a typo), and the Farris brothers, Tim, Andrew and Jon. The sextet formed in Sydney, on the day Elvis died, as The Farriss Brothers, becoming INXS in 1979. Their sixth album, Kick, contained 4 hits, including "Need You Tonight" (their only US #1 hit) and went platinum four times in the USA. They had other, lesser
successes. After sexy lead singer Hutchence died in 1997, the group decided to continue performing; half of his handsome face is featured in the lower right hand corner of the album and the ad.
